On March 27-28 the City of Carmi, in conjunction with the Carmi Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting a Spring Fling Weekend at Burrell’s Woods.
On March 27, those camping will be encouraged to decorate their campsites with a spring theme. The campsites will be judged and a winner of the best decorated campsite will be announced on March 28 and will receive a prize of $15 Carmi Dollars.
On March 28, a day of fun is planned for families and the community is welcome to attend. At 10:00 a.m. egg decorating will commence in the campground shelter and the community is welcome to attend. Children will be allowed to keep the eggs they decorate. Markers will be provided.
At 2:00 p.m. a scavenger hunt will be held for families kicking off from the campground shelter and the community is once again invited to participate. Families will scour the park searching for items from the clues given on the list provided. The first family to find all items will be awarded a prize. All children 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
At 4:00 p.m. a children’s parade will being at the campground shelter and circle the loop around the campground. Children are encourage to decorate their wagon, stroller, bike, etc. in a spring them. No motorized vehicles (ATV’s, Gators, tractors, etc.) or pets are allowed in the parade. Children from the community are encouraged to participate and participation prizes will be awarded to those participating.
Camping March 27 and 28 will be by reservation only. Those wishing to reserve a campsite should call the Chamber office at (618) 382-7606 beginning at 9 a.m. on March 2. Reservations will be made on a first come, first serve basis. Reservation requests will not be accepted prior to 9 a.m. on March 2.
“We want this to be an enjoyable weekend for families. Bring a picnic lunch and plan to spend a spring day enjoying Burrell’s Woods,” noted Mayor Jeff Pollard.
