The home of Don and Dorothy Garrett, located on Daras Drive, has been selected as the Yard of the Month for August. They will be displaying the “Yard of the Month” sign and have received $50 in Carmi Gift Certificates.
The Garrett’s moved into their current home in December 2010. They have maintained the original landscaping around the home; while adding flower beds, trees and a raised vegetable garden. Many of the plants are starts the Garrett’s brought with them from their previous home. Dorothy has also incorporated several things into the landscape including an old bicycle that belonged to Don and old clay tile from her father’s farm.
“We extend our congratulations to the Garrett family for this honor. We also appreciate the residents of Wabash Christian Retirement Center for once again judging this contest for us,” stated Holly Healy of the Carmi Chamber of Commerce.
Guidelines for the Yard of the Month are as follows: The yard cannot be professionally maintained to be eligible for the award, and a yard can only win one time a season. Nominations may be made to the Chamber of Commerce by letter, e-mail or phone by the 10th of each month. You do not have to be nominated to win. The winning yards must be within the city limits of Carmi.
September nominations should be sent to Carmi Chamber of Commerce, 225 East Main St. Carmi, IL 62821; e-mail; email@example.com or phone, 382-7606. Nominations should be received no later than September 10.
The recipient of the Yard of the Month will receive a sign to display in their yard for the month and $50 Carmi dollars, which may be spent at any business in Carmi.
