Looking for a shady campground to get away from it all? Burrell’s Woods Bicentennial Park has walking and running trails, camper hookups as well as tent camping, picnic facilities and countless tall, shady trees to stretch out beneath.
Burrell Woods Bicentennial Park’s campground has 30 easily accessible and shady campsites, and over 100 acres of park with 8 shelters. So, whether you’re looking for a place to camp or a place to gather the family and friends, we’ve got room for you here. The camp area has a shelter for picnics and is equipped with grills, electricity and water. There’s also a modern bathhouse with 4 showers each for men and women, hand dryers, hair dryers and private dressing areas equipped with handicapped sinks, toilets and showers.
Camping with all amenities is available April 15 through October 15. Camping is permitted year round (shower house is closed during winter).

All campsites are first come, first serve and are $20 per night
- 50 AMP and 30 AMP electric hook-up
- Each site has a concrete pad, fire pit and a sanitary sewer
- Firewood is included. Tent camping sites are available.

Burrell Wood Bicentennial Park and campground, a great place to gather the family and friends
There are 8 more shelters in the park for picnicking. Each is equipped with water, electricity and grills for cooking. There are 4 children’s play areas near these shelters. Three handicapped restroom facilities are centrally located between picnic areas.
In addition to providing our visitors with a well equipped southern Illinois campground, you can fish at Burrell Woods. The pond is stocked for bank fishing with bass, catfish and bluegill. Just behind the pond and over the bridge is a quiet, peaceful walking trail. This trail, which will bring you just a little closer to nature, is approximately ¼ mile long and not a hard walk for most people. There’s an additional 60 acres for exploring, recently purchased for the city, with new attractions to come.
All the roads through out the park are paved. The park and Carmi are golf cart friendly.

Why not take a break from the campground and go into town?
There’s a super Walmart in Carmi, ten minutes or less from the campground, as well as locally based grocery stores and markets even closer. You’ll also find laundromats in Carmi.
If you don’t feel like cooking, there are local restaurants and diners, pizza parlors as well as some of the national chains in Carmi. If you don’t feel like getting out, have it delivered to the campground!
There are also fraternal clubs and taverns in town, as well as package liquor stores.
Carmi has several hardware and auto part stores if you need to do some repairs during your stay. Or just come into town to shop, as we have several gift shops, antique stores and other retailers.
There are several churches in town for those who wish to attend the services of their choice.
Carmi has a fun 9 hole regulation golf course located at the Carmi Country Club. From the longest tees it offers 2,794 yards of golf for a par of 71, and an excellent clubhouse.
Hop on a bicycle and see the park and campground with a new perspective
Those who like to bicycle will love Carmi’s quiet streets, or for those with a bit more stamina, easy access to miles and miles of country roads, though gently rolling farmland and flat prairies. Or for those who like to take it easy, there’s always a country drive.
The campground and park isn’t too far from where you want to go
Our southern Illinois campground is about a 20 minute drive from I64 with exits at Burnt Prairie and Mill Shoals. Southern Illinois boasts great fishing, boating, hunting and other outdoor pursuits. At Burrell Woods Centennial Park and campground, you’re a short distance from Dolan Lake and Recreational Area, Hovey Lake Federal Wildlife Area and Beall’s Woods. For boating and ski buffs – you’re only a short drive from the Big Wabash River, the Ohio River and Rend Lake.
The Shawnee National Forest and their popular wine trail is less than an hour away, where you’ll find Garden of the Gods, with mile after mile of hiking and horseback riding trails through the wooded foothills of the Ozark mountains. The area is known for its stone bluffs, waterfalls and the some of the best fall foliage imaginable in the midwest
But if it’s fall foliage you’re looking for, you’ll find Burrell Woods blazes in the autumn.
